Welcome Message from Dr. Andre Coleman

Dr. Andre Coleman

Dear Sacramento City College Alumni,

It is with great pride and appreciation that I welcome you to this edition of the SCC Alumni Newsletter. As Dean of Student Intervention & Success, I have the privilege of supporting some of the most vital services that help our students thrive—including student equity, basic needs, academic support programs, and initiatives that foster a sense of belonging across our diverse campus community.

Every day, I see the profound difference these programs make in students’ lives. And I know many of you—our alumni—have been shaped by or have contributed to these same efforts during your time here. Whether through tutoring, mentorship, food pantry access, or support through the RISE, Puente, Umoja, or TRIO programs, your experiences are part of what makes SCC such a transformative place.

This newsletter is a celebration of you. Your stories, successes, and ongoing engagement continue to inspire and uplift the SCC family. We invite you to stay connected, get involved, and help us ensure future generations have the same opportunities to grow and succeed.

With Panther Pride,

Dr. Andre Coleman

Celebrate City Draws 400+ Attendees!

This year's Celebrate City knocked it out of the park with more than 400 people in attendance. The day started with special free admission to a Panthers baseball game at Union Stadium, followed by festivities in the Quad with over 70 college programs, student clubs and community partners tabling, music, food trucks, free popcorn and cotton candy, games and activities for the whole family, and photo ops with SCC mascot Hughie!

A special congratulations goes out to the Native American Student Success Center for winning the Celebrate City tabling trophy! 🎉

We would love to hear how we could make Celebrate City even better. If you didn't have a chance to fill out the exit survey, you can do so by clicking the button below. Thank you for your feedback!

It's not too late to make a Big Day of Giving gift!

transfer center

Students work tirelessly for years—balancing classes, jobs, and family responsibilities—to earn their degrees at Los Rios so they can transfer to four-year institutions.

Unfortunately, far too many go to submit their transfer application, reach the last page, and feel defeated when they see the $80 fee. For many, $80 might be their entire food budget for the week.

Every year, more than 4,000 students across the Los Rios colleges successfully transfer to CSU or UC schools, taking the next step in their education. But how many more could join them with your help?

On this Big Day of Giving, we are asking for the $80 needed to cover the UC/CSU application fee so that every student who walks into one of our Transfer Centers can leave knowing they’ve given it their all and applied to their dream school.

Together, we can ensure that no hardworking student has to put their future on hold over something as small as an application fee.

SCC’s Community Health Program Featured
in The Sacramento Bee

West Sacramento Center

Sacramento City College’s Community Health Care Worker Certificate Program was recently highlighted in The Sacramento Bee for its role in training students to bridge the gap between medical professionals and underserved communities.

With demand for community health workers projected to grow 13% over the next decade, SCC’s two-semester certificate program provides real-world experience through practicums, often leading to immediate job opportunities. Scholarships and donor funding help students focus on their training without financial strain. Jennifer Laflam, dean of the West Sacramento Center, noted that although much of the certificate program's coursework has previously been offered online, the administration intends to host some in-person classes at the West Sacramento campus (pictured).
