Student Associated Council
SAC is composed of three different groups: the Student Senate, Clubs and Events Board (CAEB), and the Joint-Budget Committee.
Student Clubs
Any group of students having common interests may organize a student club under the rules established for student organizations.

Student Leadership and Development can help you register to vote in local, state and national elections. You need to register to vote if you have moved your residence, changed your name or party affiliation, or are voting for the first time.
Student Government

2 Units
36 Lecture Hours, 18 Lab Hours
Prerequisite: None
Acceptable for Credit: CSU
This course is open to all students, and meets the training requirement for all Student Associated Council (SAC) members. Class includes an introduction to group dynamics. It provides theory and practice in leadership, and parliamentary procedure training. The emphasis is on student leadership skills. Students will participate in the SAC board meetings and related committees.
Civic Engagement & Leadership Development
- Students will demonstrate increased leadership skills by actively participating in student government, developing initiatives, and representing student interests in participatory governance structures.
- Students will engage in campus and community civic activities, such as town halls, advocacy campaigns, and voter registration efforts, promoting democratic participation.
- Students enrolled in the Student Government course will successfully complete the course by demonstrating proficiency in leadership, governance, and civic engagement through active participation, completion of course assignments, and fulfillment of student government responsibilities.
Student Voice & Representation
- Students will effectively communicate student concerns and priorities to college administration and governing bodies, leading to institutional responsiveness and change.
- Student government representatives will demonstrate knowledge of shared governance, including the role of students in decision-making processes at the college.
Event & Program Development
- Students will plan and execute programs and initiatives that foster student engagement, leadership, and community building, increasing participation in campus life.
Equity & Inclusive Representation
- Student government will determine that programs, policies, and initiatives reflect the diverse identities, needs, and lived experiences of the student body.
- Students will express an increased sense of belonging and inclusion through participation in student government-led initiatives, including student clubs, that promote equitable access to resources and support services.
Professional & Personal Growth
- Student government members will develop transferable skills such as public speaking, conflict resolution, budgeting, and teamwork that support their academic, professional, and personal development.
- Students will demonstrate confidence in leadership roles and the ability to navigate institutional structures, preparing them for future leadership opportunities beyond the college setting.
- Demonstrate the necessary skills for effective student representation as part of the participatory decision-making process.·
- Analyze group dynamics and organizational behavior as these relate to student leadership.
- Apply teamwork and leadership skills.
