How long are tutoring sessions?

Tutoring sessions can be 25 or 55 minutes long.

A 55-minute session may be a small group of 1 to 3 people.

Tutoring staff try to fulfill as many tutoring requests as possible, and groups students by course, and course number if possible.

How far in advance can I schedule a tutoring appointment?

Students can schedule up to 2 weeks in advance for tutoring. If you need tutoring within 1 hour's notice, please call or text us at (916) 573-0142.

How many hours per week can I meet with a tutor?

Students can schedule to meet with a tutor for a total of 1 hour per week per subject.

How can I have more time with a tutor?

Students can meet with a tutor for more time each week using drop-in tutoring. Students using DSPS may be eligible to schedule more time each week by talking with their counselor.

Why was I enrolled in HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring?

Enrolling students in HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring is how the college is able to collect data regarding usage of tutoring services. The data collected is used to determine how much funding tutoring services is given each academic year.

Is HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring a class?

No, HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring is not a class. It is FREE, 0 units, removed from transcripts, and used for data collection purposes.

Why do I see the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) as a course in Canvas?

The Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) appears in Canvas after a student is enrolled in HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring. Center staff use this Canvas “course” to provide information about tutoring and campus resources.

Will my professor be notified that I am meeting with a tutor?

No, professors are not notified about tutoring sessions or that a student in their class is using tutoring services.

My professor is offering extra credit for tutoring. How do I request a record of my tutoring sessions?

Students can contact the TLC front desk to request a complete record of their tutoring sessions.

However, students do receive a receipt for each tutoring session attended. The receipt is sent to the student’s school email address.
