Become a Tutor or Learning Assistant
Apply to be a Tutoring and Learning Center Tutor
The Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) employs SCC students as peer tutors to conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions, small group tutoring sessions, and informal tutor-led study sessions in a variety of subjects offered at the college.
Student employees are paid the current minimum wage.
Eligibility
Peer Tutors will:
- Be actively enrolled in a minimum of 6 units with the Los Rios CCD
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- Have completed their tutored course with a grade of B or higher
- Have a faculty recommendation for their subject of choice
- Have the willingness and capability to work online in addition to on-campus
- Have a desire to work with people of all different backgrounds and abilities.
Duties
Peer Tutors assist students in:
- Reviewing and clarifying information covered in class
- Improving their study skills for the subjects tutored in
- Achieving subject mastery
Tutor Training Course
Tutors are also required to complete a one-unit tutor training course and be available for periodic additional training. The tutor training course can be waived for students who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree, or who have taken a comparable tutor training course elsewhere.
