Student Trustee

Leonardo Torres Ruvalcaba

Leonardo Torres Ruvalcaba

My name is Leonardo Torres Ruvalcaba, and I moved from a rural farming town in Northern California to Sacramento a year ago to grow as a student and a person. In that short time, the Los Rios District has welcomed me with an amazing level of support. I am running for Student Trustee because I believe the best way to honor a community that gives so much is to serve it. Having experienced our campuses from the front lines as a student navigating the hurdles that stand in the way of our academic and personal success, I’ve identified key areas that need attention. I feel a duty to ensure that the college I leave behind is even stronger and more accessible than the one I found.

I recognize that the Student Trustee position is demanding, and I welcome that challenge. I possess the courage to speak up when it matters most. I felt that weight when I stood before the office of Representative Matsui in Washington D.C. to advocate for fair college funding. I was nervous, but my commitment to my fellow students outweighed my hesitation. I refused to let my team down, and more importantly, I refused to let down the students back home who rely on those funds. That same sense of duty is what drives my work on campus. Whether I am navigating the diverse needs of our 31 individual clubs as Vice President of clubs and events board at Sac city or talking to students from all our campuses, I am always looking for ways to deliver results for us.

As a student who maintains a minimum 16-unit load while working and taking care of family, I know the weight on your shoulders. I know the exhaustion of balancing rigorous coursework, job shifts, and family responsibilities. I understand what it’s like to feel like you’re falling behind while trying to push through because you want a better future more than anything. That is why I am committed to ensuring that you deserve a Trustee who doesn't just represent you, but actually lives the same reality you do.

Student Senate President

Angel Binuya

Advocacy is often mistaken as something that is distant, tangled in procedure, reserved for those who already hold an understanding of how to navigate it, but this is far from the truth. For students, advocacy is far more immediate and far more necessary. It lives in the everyday realities of being unheard, overlooked, or disconnected from the decisions that change and shape not only their education, but their entire livelihoods.

At Sacramento City College, student government represents one of the few formal avenues through which student voices can be truly translated into action. Despite this, we struggle to connect with all of our students. My campaign is, and always will be, rooted in the belief that advocacy does not need to be complicated to be powerful. I want to work to make it visible, approachable, and reflective of the incredible students that it exists to serve.

When this happens, advocacy becomes what it was always mean to be. Rather than an exercise of power, I hope to see it spotlighted as a collective expression of student voice, one that is heard and carried forward with intention and impact.

Student Senate Vice President

Aylin Lam Salinas

Aylin Lam Salinas

Hello everyone, my name is Aylin Lam Salinas. I’m running for Vice President in the Senate. I have been a senator for the past year, and through that, I was able to see more closely the issues we face at Sac City. I want to be in this position to have better opportunities to make a change and create a more unified community where no one is left behind. As a senator, I was able to attend the Federal Advocacy trip in Washington, D.C., and that experience opened my eyes to the power of student voices. It showed me how important it is for us to speak up for the changes we want and deserve. I would also love to bring our college spirit back and make our home games more exciting feeling that energy as we come together to support our Panthers and celebrate their wins. I truly believe we can be responsible and have fun at the same time.

Student Senate Secretary of Legislative Affairs

July Pyar

July Pyar

Every student at Sacramento City College has the right for their voice to be heard. As a representative, I value transparency, organization, and meaningful discussion that reflects the diverse perspectives of our campus. I aim to be someone who not only welcomes student ideas, but helps turn them into meaningful action.

I am committed to accurately documenting discussions, maintaining clear and organized records, and sharing legislative updates in a way that keeps students informed and engaged. Through this role, I hope to strengthen trust between student government and the student body while fostering a more connected and active campus community.

Student Senate Secretary

Obehi Benito-Oserogho

Obehi Benito-Oserogho

Good day everyone, my name is Obehi Benito-Oserogho, and I am running for the position of Secretary for the Student Senate at Sacramento City College.  I chose to run for this position because I genuinely care about how information is shared between the Senate and the students. Although being Secretary is not seen as the most glamorous role, it’s a very important role. It is one that requires attention to detail, active listening, and the ability to capture important discussions in a clear and meaningful way.  More importantly, it serves as a bridge between the Senate and the student body.  Many students are not able to attend meetings, whether because of time conflicts or other responsibilities. Because students can’t always be there, the minutes that we produce are sometimes the only way some students are able to keep up with what’s going on. I want students who read our minutes to feel as if they were there themselves. I want them to be able to easily understand what was discussed and how decisions were made. That is where my focus on transparency comes in. I believe that student leaders should be accountable, and one of the best ways to do that is by making our work visible and accessible.  If elected, my main priority will be to ensure that all records and meeting minutes are clear, organized, and easy to follow. I want to continue allowing students to be heard and ensuring that when we take minutes their voices are heard through our documentation. I also hope to help increase student involvement by showing them who we are and what we do through our minutes.

With over 50% of our students being online, communication has to go beyond just meetings. I would support sharing summarized and accessible versions of meeting minutes through platforms like email, social media, and student portals, so that students can stay informed no matter where they are. Some issues that our students face are not knowing student government exists, not knowing what we do affects them, not having access to information and resources, and the feeling of disconnect, particularly among our online students. I believe that improving communication and transparency can help address these challenges and make students feel more included and represented.Overall, I want to use this role to strengthen the connection between the Senate and the students it serves. Thank you.

Student Senate Secretary of Outreach & Development

Daniel Tamang

Daniel Tamang

I think I would be a good candidate for the position of Secretary of Outreach and Development, first of all, I want to make an impact on my own college community as I have worked in my own community through working in a food bank, giving food to the community. Outreach and development is about connecting with many groups of students and supporting them in achieving an equitable educational experience. I feel that through my experience in Sacramento City College, I have met and talked to many students about their personal experiences, and I feel that it has helped me think about just how diverse our student population is, and the support they need, for a fulfilling educational experience. I also have experience connecting with many different student clubs, organizations, services, and resources.

Student Senate Secretary of Sustainability

Katherine Davies

Katherine Davies

Hello, my name is Katherine Davies, and I am running for Secretary of Sustainability.

I chose to run for this position because I care deeply about how environmental sustainability shows up in students’ everyday lives.

Through my experience working with Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), where I help maintain the Proposition 65 chemical list, and from leading the Inclusive Nutrition club at Cosumnes River College, I’ve learned that sustainability only works when it’s practical and easy for students to engage with.

I’m especially interested in supporting tangible sustainability improvements on campus with the knowledge I have gained at OEHHA, whether that’s creating better outlets for waste reduction and reuse, exploring creative carbon capture strategies, improving indoor air quality through tools like HEPA filtration, or advocating for safer, higher-quality drinking water, including attention to contaminants like perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Too often, sustainability efforts sound good in theory, but without real implementation, they don’t create meaningful change. I want to focus on initiatives that actually make a difference in students’ daily lives and move SCC’s sustainability efforts forward. If elected, I promise to turn ideas into action and make sustainability something students can actually see and experience on campus. I hope you'll consider me for Secretary of Sustainability!

Student Senator

Maya Carvajal

Maya Carvajal

I served as my high schools school board representative for two years. (2023-2025) I have experience with communicating student needs and wishes to district officials and preparing speeches as well as gathering data. I’m very interested in getting more involved in campus. As a political science major I’d like to gain more experience with student affairs and gaining insight on the inner workings of the student body. I am passionate about equity in education and firmly believe that every student deserves the best quality and an education that serves their specific needs. I really enjoy crafting and spending time with my family. Artistic pursuits can be somewhat therapeutic for me although only recreational. I serve as Diversity and Inclusion Officer in the Honors Club and although it has only been a short period of time am really looking forward to exercising that role for student outreach!

Clubs & Events Board President

David Tran

David Tran

Have you ever been in 6 clubs at once and done sports on top of that? Yeah, that was me in High School, and if you thought I could juggle all that, especially holding an officer position in every club, you thought wrong. Despite the downsides of being in all these clubs, I truly had a passion for them, and it was hard not to be involved in everything. It gave me a sense of community and fulfillment.

I have a strong passion for culture, especially for creating a diverse space where everyone is accepted and can bond over things they didn't know about each other. Going back to my high school experience, I was the head of VSA(Vietnamese Student Association), the leader of our Korean Club dance group, and the secretary for the Japanese Club. Bringing these cultures together, I was a main guide in our Multicultural Banquets, putting on unforgettable cultural performances like fan dances and fashion shows, and inviting people to share their cultural foods with each other, reaching over 200+ participants every year.

But, what I really want to do for the Sac City Clubs and their students is to be able to create spaces where people of all different backgrounds can come to understand each other and build connections. Third-party spaces are hard to find, especially since so many spaces outside of school or our own home cost money, but here, we provide for our students with free events, food, and fun activities. I'm committed to maximizing the amount of creativity we have amongst our council to push out new and more themed events. And when I mean themed events, I mean the kind of events that come with a vision, an artistic, creative vision, which is what I, as a candidate for President of the Clubs and Events Board, will provide.

Clubs & Events Board Vice President

Keila Roberts

Keila Roberts

This past spring semester for the 2025-2026 school year I served as the secretary of public relations for the club and events board. I also had the opportunity to lobby for our student body at the capitol.

I am interested in running for the president of club and events board because I want to directly shape and create more and better student events as well as increase student and community engagement. I am looking to increase my role and responsibilities, I also know that I would be a great fit for this position because of my resilience , creativity and panther pride!

My interest include advocacy work, volunteering, showing up for my peers and lending a helping hand. I am working towards building a career in the entertainment industry so networking and meaningful building relationships are important to me.

While in school I take pride in being apart of clubs like the honors club, pre-law. I am an active participant in Umoja and the pace program. I enjoy both traveling and learning  so I have taken the chance to study abroad multiple times since I have been a student at Sacramento City College.
