Completion of your Certificate of Achievement (COA) in Vocational Nursing and passing the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) exam is just the beginning for many aspiring Nursing Students.
Earning your Associate Degree in Nursing and passing the National Council licensure Examination (NCLEX) can provide many exciting job opportunities as a Registered Nurse.
By further progressing your education in either a Bachelor’s or Master’s Nursing program, career mobility and advancement opportunities can be found in areas such as nursing leadership, advanced nursing clinical practice and nursing education roles
LVN to RN Transition Pathway
The LVN to RN Transition to Registered Nursing is 3 semesters in length, with both full-time and part-time options available. Enrollment options are available for Licensed Vocational Nurses who hold a current CA Vocational Nursing license and who have completed at least 6 months working experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
The LVN to RN Career Mobility program prepares LVN nurses to expand their scope of practice into the Registered Nursing Role with the goal of sitting for the NCLEX-RN.
The RN program will introduce concepts of multiple patient care management in the acute care setting, planning interdisciplinary care for patients, analyzing Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN), implementing evidence-based practice and learning management skills. The RN program will focus on the application of complex patient pathophysiology to nursing care with clinical reasoning and critical thinking as foundational competencies. Clinical patient care and classroom lecture are included in each course in the program.
The BSN program will extend the depth of knowledge in management and leadership, community health, informatics, and entry-level research.
RN to BSN Pathway
In collaboration with California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), we offer selected Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students an opportunity to pursue their Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) degree concurrently during the ADN program. This cross-enrollment with CSUS pathway is available to students earning a “B” grade or better in the first semester of the SCC Registered Nursing program.
Other RN to BSN Collaborative programs include opportunities at the University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University.
After graduating from SCC, students may take their NCLEX examination and may pursue employment while enrolled in their BSN coursework. Each BSN program has unique requirements for entry described in their college catalogs.
RN to MSN Pathway
Another pathway available is the RN to Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program for students who have a Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related major and are in progress with their ADN. After graduating from SCC, students may take their NCLEX examination and may pursue employment while enrolled in their MSN coursework.
RN to MSN pathways are available through Universities that all have unique entrance requirements described in their catalogs.
