The ATI TEAS 7 exam is required to apply to the RN, LVN – RN Mobility and the VN Programs.
A minimum score of 62% is required for the RN and RN Mobility Programs.
No Minimum score is required for the VN program.
SCC uses the Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS), developed by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI).
The TEAS is a computer-based, multiple-choice test, requiring you to be able to point with a mouse and select the answer. No calculators may be used during the testing. Scoring is automatic; you will receive your score within five minutes of completing the exam. The passing standard and parameters for implementation of assessment testing have been developed by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
Preparation
It is highly recommended that students study and prepare for the test. Please see the TEAS Test Preparation and Study Resources drop-down for a list of available study aids.
Scoring
SCC will accept the first passing TEAS scores. An overall score of 62 (average of the four test elements) will be required for applying to the SCC nursing program. This score is required for California Community College Nursing Programs. A student’s TEAS scores will be given a point value as part of a multi-criteria enrollment process. Higher TEAS scores are given greater point values. The pre-screening enrollment criteria worksheet consists of nine criteria that yield a total of 100 points.
Registration
The ATI TEAS is one exam offered through four different proctors (online and in-person).
For important exam details and to register for the exam:
Students with a diagnosed documented disability from a Disability Resource Center Learning Specialist need to submit accommodation paperwork to the SCC Nursing Program Director at least one week prior to the testing date.
Each of the designated testing dates can accommodate DSPS students in the computer lab by offering noise reduction headphones, a seat facing the wall, and the extra time required, which is determined by DSPS.
Students with questions or concerns are encouraged to call (916) 558-2271 and schedule an appointment with the Program Director.
Students who wish to retake the TEAS test for a better score have two options available:
- Retake the test after the standard 90 day/3 month waiting period, or
- Complete the remediation process and retake the test.
Students can provide proof of remediation by completing the following:
- Review the TEAS test results and study manual.
- Students may consider taking a class in the low-scoring subject, such as BIO 100 or 102, ENGRD 310 or 312, or a basic math class.
- Complete an applicable TEAS validation study resource.
Once you have re-tested, submit the completed ATI TEAS Remediation form and your updated test score with your online application.
The following are possible study aids for the TEAS test. Some are free and some have an associated cost. Sacramento City Nursing does not endorse one type of study guide over another. Students will need to choose the best study guide to meet their personal learning style.
