Take a Gerontology Class, Give Your Resume a Boost!
Taking one or more classes in Gerontology can give your resume a boost! As an added benefit, many introductory classes can also count toward your GE requirements for an associate’s degree.
There is an ever-growing need for workers across all industries who can relate to diverse, older adults and meet them with individualized and holistic care aimed at prolonging independence, health, and joy. A labor market analysis of our area has found a rapidly increasing demand for educated employees in many fields who are sensitive to the needs of elders.
The recent career data suggests that pairing a Gerontology course or an Associate Degree with your other career goals may be a huge advantage in your future. As the population in our region ages, growth in careers that focus on the needs of elders is expected to grow by 24% (compared to a 5% average growth for other areas). Entrepreneurs may find opportunities to provide niche services and goods for various older adult lifestyles such as cooking, yoga, and service delivery.
From health-related careers like personal training, physical therapy, nursing, and dental hygiene to more pleasure related industries like restaurants, movie theaters, and resorts, most if not all industries are making note that applicants with even a small amount of training in Gerontology make better employees and are in a better position to be hired.
