RISE
RISE stands for Respect, Integrity, Self-determination & Education.
RISE is a support service for students where we go above and beyond to ease the transition from high school to community college. We believe in emphasizing to our students the importance of achieving higher education through transfer. Rise takes the “family approach” in order for SCC students to feel welcomed on campus.
At RISE our philosophy is every student can successfully complete college if they choose to. Our goal is to help students get connected at Sacramento City College.
Services
Students in the RISE program have access to dedicated counselors for academic and personal counseling, available by appointment or drop-in.
To make a counseling appointment please call (916) 650-2782 or email Rise@scc.losrios.edu.
RISE Program Online tutoring works just like face-to-face tutoring. Using Google hangouts and Google Docs through your Los Rios Gmail, you can meet with a tutor in real time. Just like any appointment in the RISE Center, tutors can help with Math, English, Science, and more for any class at Sacramento City College.

RISE students may check out books from the lending library for the entire semester. Books are donated by students, faculty and staff. We also have textbooks on reserve that can be used while studying in the RISE space.
The RISE Computer Lab is available to students who need to do research or homework. Student Ambassadors are available to provide assistance.
RISE students get to visit different college campuses throughout the school year. Colleges we have visited include: UCLA, UC Riverside, USC, UC Berkeley, SF State, UC Merced, UC Davis, and Sac State. College visits are organized through the Human Career Development HCD 318 course.
Jr. RISE is a college preparation and retention program for 11th- and 12th-graders that extends through their first year of college. The program strives to provide a space for students to explore life’s options beyond high school, while creating bonds with others who have similar goals. Students in the program may simultaneously earn college credit and high school credit. They will start college with friendships in place and completed college credits already in the portfolio, making the transition between high school and college seamless.
