RISE
RISE stands for Respect, Integrity, Self-determination, and Education.
RISE is a student support program designed to ease the transition from high school to community college while fostering a sense of belonging. We emphasize the importance of higher education and encourage students to pursue their transfer goals with confidence.
Taking a “family approach,” RISE creates a welcoming space where Sacramento City College students feel supported, connected, and part of a thriving community.
At RISE, we believe every student has the ability to succeed in college when given the right resources, encouragement, and community. Our mission is to help students build meaningful connections, strengthen their sense of belonging, and grow both academically and personally at Sacramento City College.

RISE students may check out books from the lending library for the entire semester. Books are donated by students, faculty and staff. We also have textbooks on reserve that can be used while studying in the RISE space.
The RISE Computer Lab is available to students who need to do research or homework. Student Ambassadors are available to provide assistance.
RISE students get to visit different college campuses throughout the school year. Colleges we have visited include: UCLA, UC Riverside, USC, UC Berkeley, SF State, UC Merced, UC Davis, and Sac State. College visits are organized through the Human Career Development HCD 318 course.
Jr. RISE is a college preparation and retention program for 11th- and 12th-graders that extends through their first year of college. The program strives to provide a space for students to explore life’s options beyond high school, while creating bonds with others who have similar goals. Students in the program may simultaneously earn college credit and high school credit. They will start college with friendships in place and completed college credits already in the portfolio, making the transition between high school and college seamless.
