The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a new general education pattern designed to make transferring from a California Community College to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) easier and more efficient.

Guidance for New Students (Summer/Fall 2025)
If you're a new student starting in summer or fall 2025, meet with a counselor to pick courses that will meet the GE requirements for your educational goal.
Planning to transfer to a university for a bachelor's degree? You will use the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
Planning to earn a degree from Sacramento City College and join the workforce? You can follow the local AA/AS GE requirements or the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
Guidance for Current Students
Are you planning to transfer to a UC or CSU? If your goal is to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) or transfer to a CSU or UC without an ADT, then you have two choices:
- Option 1: Continue following CSU GE Breadth or IGETC (if you first enrolled before fall 2025). Visit the catalog archives to find the catalog with your CSU GE Breadth or IGETC pattern.
- If you plan to continue following IGETC, then reference the Cal-GETC requirements along with this Cal-GETC to IGETC mapping table to select your GE classes for fall 2025.
- Option 2: Transition to the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
If you have questions about which GE pattern is best for you, meet with a counselor.
Are you planning to get a degree and not transfer to a four-year college or university? If your goal is to earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree without transfer, then you have two choices:
- Option 1: Continue following the local AA/AS GE pattern you've been following. Visit the catalog archives to find the catalog with your AA/AS GE pattern. Use this new to old AA/AS GE mapping table to help you select your GE classes for fall 2025.
- Option 2: Transition to the local AA/AS GE requirements to select your GE classes.
