About City Scholars
Who is eligible to join City Scholars?
First Time in College students who are recent high school graduates.
Is City Scholars free to participate in?
Yes! There is no additional cost to join City Scholars.
How do I demonstrate my interest/join the City Scholars Program?
This short interest form helps us learn more about you, your goals, and the kinds of support that would be most helpful as you begin your college journey.
Your responses will help our team connect you with campus resources, opportunities, and next steps at Sacramento City College.
What is the timeline? When should I enroll?
City Scholars will start in Fall 2026. You can submit your interest form online now through June 1, 2026
Can dual enrollment students participate in City Scholars?
If you are a high school graduate as of Fall 2026, you can participate in City Scholars whether you were in the dual enrollment program or not.
City Scholars vs. Existing SCC Programs
How is City Scholars different from other learning communities or support programs at SCC?
City Scholars is unique in that it offers block schedules with guaranteed course availability and smaller class sizes. We work in partnership with our existing learning communities and programs at SCC. In most instances, you can be a part of several programs and learning communities at the same time.
Can I join City Scholars if I’m already part of another program (Puente, Umoja, EOP&S, etc.)?
Depending on your availability to take courses with the City Scholars cohort, and the programming that best serves your needs, you could take advantage of several offerings on campus at the same time.
Can Dual Enrollment students participate in City Scholars?
If you are a high school graduate as of Fall 2026, you can participate in City Scholars whether you were in the dual enrollment program or not. (ADD) Our counselor will work with you to build your schedule.
Is there a dedicated counselor for students in City Scholars?
Yes! You will work directly with the same counselor and student success coach for your academic and personal advising.
Time Commitment & Participation
What does the time commitment look like as a City Scholars student?
City Scholars students can plan to take 12-16 units per semester to meet their two-year completion goals.
Can I be in the program if I am working full-time or have a busy schedule?
This depends on your ability to manage the fulltime course load that is offered in pre-scheduled blocks of time.
What types of activities, workshops, or meetings are a part of City Scholars?
Our Student Success Coach and Counselor provide workshops and events for personal, and academic development, as well as fun.
How long is the program?
Beginning in Fall 2026, students will participate in the program thru completion on or around Spring 2028 after which time they will be transfer ready to their university of choice.
Enrollment & Getting Started
Does the program help with getting started at Sacramento City College?
Our Outreach and Recruitment team get future SCC students started before they even set foot on campus, including high school-based CCC Apply, Financial Aid, and Enrollment workshops.
Will the program help me with class registration and building my first semester schedule?
Yes. You will receive advising on how to enroll in your first semester’s classes, and then students will build their confidence to enroll themselves accurately in future terms.
Does City Scholars offer an orientation for students?
Yes. We will offer a Summer Orientation Program for admitted students to get acclimated to SCC and start the school year on their best foot.
Financial Aid & Costs
Does the City Scholars program offer financial aid support?
While students must self-report their information to apply for financial aid, SCC’s Outreach & Recruitment team hold workshops and labs where students can come with their questions and get technical support.
How does the City Scholars save me time and money in pursuing my degree to transfer?
Grants and scholarships often have time and use limits. By ensuring students don’t take unnecessary courses, complete requirements successfully in a timely manner.
Does the program offer scholarships?
Yes! Due to the generosity of private donors, City Scholars students have access to apply for exclusive scholarships as they meet academic milestones each semester and at completion of their degree for transfer.
