SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento City College (SCC) is excited to announce the launch of City Scholars, a first-of-its-kind transfer program, designed to personally guide each student through their major coursework and transfer to a university within two years.

Beginning in the fall, the 120 students in the program’s first cohort will have access to several personalized supports, including block scheduling, which guarantees course availability exclusively to those in the program. At launch, the areas of study that are available through City Scholars are Administration of Justice, Business, and Psychology, although there are plans to expand the selection as the program grows.

In addition to guaranteed courses, the program offers wraparound supports that include:

  • Dedicated program counselors to provide ongoing, individualized, and major-specific guidance and coaching
  • Exclusive scholarship opportunities as students complete academic milestones
  • Financial assistance covering the cost of required academic materials and supplies
  • Culturally responsive support embedded in all areas of service, including tutoring, counseling, and financial aid

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible for the program:

  • Graduating from high school this year
  • Attending college in Fall 2026
  • Plans to attend Sacramento City College full-time (12-16 units per semester)
  • Majoring in Administration of Justice, Business, or Psychology
  • Plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree
  • Would benefit from a community of peer support and built-in guidance

Through City Scholars, students will be prepared to transfer to a four-year university or complete an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in the eligible majors within two years, saving them time and money.

“Our students have faced plenty of barriers in trying to reach their transfer goals,” said SCC President Albert Garcia. “City Scholars will remove those barriers. Our students will transfer, and I'm eager to see it.”

Davin Brown, SCC Vice President of Student Services, agrees, saying that the program will ensure students don’t lose their momentum toward transfer.

“City Scholars is designed to remove the guesswork and barriers that too often slow students down on their path to transfer,” said Davin Brown, SCC Vice President of Student Services. “By combining guaranteed course access, dedicated counseling, financial support, and culturally responsive services, we are creating a clear, structured pathway where students can focus on learning instead of navigating obstacles.”

SCC is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), and most recently a Black Student Serving Institution (BSI).

Fall enrollment begins April 13, 2026, but students who are interested in joining City Scholars should submit the online interest form as soon as possible.
