Each year since 1931, Sacramento City College honors two exceptional students with the Distinguished Service Award—our most prestigious recognition for those who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service.

Each recipient receives a $1,500 scholarship and is celebrated at the college’s annual commencement ceremony. They are also featured on the SCC website, newsletters, and social media—recognizing their outstanding contributions to the college and the broader community.

AA-T in Economics | First-generation student | Future UCLA Bruin

Scott Lee stands out for his exceptional leadership, global vision, and commitment to equity and public service. His contributions have inspired students across the Los Rios District and beyond.

Highlights

  • Interned in the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
  • Served as SCC Business Society VP & CRC Student Senate      Director of Legislative Affairs
  • Advocated for college affordability and transfer equity at the state level
  • Volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, SMUD, and the Hmong Opportunity Program for Education
  • Selected as 1 of 18 global Future Leaders by 180 Degrees Consulting
  • Transferring to UCLA to study Political Science with a focus on foreign policy

Mechanical Engineering Major | 4.0 GPA | Future UC Berkeley Golden Bear

Katelyn Wong represents academic excellence, innovation, and leadership. Her time at SCC has been defined by discipline, drive, and a deep commitment to STEM and student success.

Highlights

  • Graduating with a 4.0 GPA and 19-unit course load
  • MESA Student Ambassador, Phi Theta Kappa member, math tutor
  • Team captain for SCC Cross Country & Track
  • Participated in NASA Aerospace Scholars, interned at Teledyne Microwave Solutions
  • Conducted undergraduate research at UC Davis
  • Lifelong love for engineering, starting with LEGO builds as a child
  • Transferring to UC Berkeley to pursue aerospace engineering

Katelyn Wong is an engineer, leader, and role model for future generations.
