Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA)
Students of the Sacramento City College Occupational Therapy Association Program are stewards and advocates of the allied health profession of occupational therapy.
Club purpose: To share knowledge, raise awareness, provide opportunities, and promote the occupation of occupational therapy which promotes independence by helping people function and participate in their daily lives. The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) club exists to create a community and support system among club members, advocating for community-based and special needs causes in the way of outreach and service promoting Occupational Therapy (OT) and the Occupational Therapy Association (OTA) program at SCC.
Occupational therapy (OT) helps restore or maintain people's ability to live life to the fullest by providing a holistic approach to health and by using occupations, which are the meaningful activities in a person's life, as interventions for healing. Taking a holistic approach and using meaningful occupations as interventions are what differentiates OT from other fields. OT practitioners work with individuals across the lifespan, groups and communities. OT practitioners work in collaboration with many other disciplines, including physical therapy, speech therapy, and different medical professions.
SOTA is a service-oriented and social club that seeks to:
- serve the SCC community by utilizing skills and resources learned in our courses to empower SCC students, as well as to serve the greater Sacramento community;
- provide opportunities for professional development, including supporting the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC);
- network and build professional relationships; and
- have fun.
